Nominations are being sought for McLeod Co-op Power’s 2021 Touchstone Energy Community Award.
McLeod Cooperative Power is seeking applications for the Touchstone Energy Community Award. This annual award recognizes local businesses, non-profit and community groups that have shown a strong commitment to the community. Any organization that has helped make their local community within McLeod, Renville, Sibley, or Carver Counties a better place to live and work is eligible to be nominated for the $500 award.
Community members may nominate an organization, association, or business by completing an application form. The application form is included at the bottom of this announcement. The application will require a description of the project, program, or event as well as details on the positive impact it brought to the community. Questions may be directed to Dan Ehrke.
Completed applications must be received by 4:00 p.m. on Friday, October 29th, 2021.
“As an electric cooperative serving this area, we have high regard for community involvement,” CEO Ron Meier said. “This award allows us to highlight and encourage those organizations that have shown an outstanding commitment to the community.”
The local $500 award recipient will be announced in November and will then contend for the statewide Touchstone Energy Community Award, which has an award of $1,000. The statewide award winner will be recognized at the Minnesota Rural Electric Association annual meeting in 2021.
The Minnesota Touchstone Energy cooperatives are part of a national alliance of more than 750 electric cooperatives in 46 states that adhere to the values of integrity, accountability, innovation, and commitment to the community.

McLeod Cooperative Power awarded its 2020 Touchstone Energy Community Award to Glencoe American Legion Post 95. This annual award recognizes a local business, non-profit or community group that made a positive impact within the Co-op’s service territory during the past year. As the 2020 award winner, Glencoe American Legion Post 95 received a $500 donation.
Glencoe American Legion Post 95 has a long history of service and civic duty with the post recently celebrated its 100th anniversary. Its members work diligently to support local veterans, area students, and other community groups. Some of the causes that the group supports financially include McLeod County Veterans Assistance Fund, American Legion Foundation for Hospitalized Veterans, Returning Vets Program, American Legion Family Hospital Program, Christmas Gifts for Shut-in Veterans, Veterans Pheasant Dinner Program, Minnesota State American Legion ROTC Program, Blizzard Blast Hospice Fundraiser, Glencoe Days, Glencoe Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, Glencoe-Silver Lake (GSL) High School Scholarship Program, GSL After Prom, GSL Booster Club, GSL Trapshooting, GSL Robotics Club, GSL Close-up Program, and the GSL Business and Professional Association. This award was a chance to recognize Glencoe American Legion Post 95 for all the great work they do in our service territory. Congratulations Post 95!
