Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. MCPA is the only electric provider serving our designated service territory. As a member-owned electric cooperative, we provide electricity to the homes, farms, and businesses within our service area.
Electrical demand (kW) is the amount of power required to operate all appliances and equipment running off of electricity in your home at a specific point in time. This means all appliances and equipment are operating simultaneously at any time.
Visit our Demand Rates page for more information
No, as of January 1st, 2026 all of McLeod Cooperative Power’s Electric rates include a kW demand fee. This kW demand fee was put into place and included on all residential accounts. The demand is calculated only during the hours of 5PM-9PM on Monday-Friday. TODD does not include any major holidays.
A basic energy consumption calculator is available on our Demand Estimator page. This may help determine basic energy consumption for many types of appliances in your home.
MCPA does offer energy audits when required. However, most energy consumption questions typically can be addressed via phone conversation. On-site troubleshooting of equipment would be performed by the member’s electrician. If it is determined that an on-site audit would still be required, an MCPA employee would work with the member to perform such audit.
Members can set up a SmartHub account to view all account information, including the current usage and demand. Sign up for an account at SmartHub. You can also call the office at 320-864-3148 or 800-494-6272 to ask for any information on your account.

No, all wiring upgrades or repairs need to be performed during regular work hours Monday through Friday from 8AM-4PM to avoid any fees. If a disconnect is required during regular business hours, MCPA will perform those disconnects at no charge to the member. Please contact our Operations Department to set up and schedule an appointment a few days in advance to perform the free disconnect/reconnect process.
Yes, MCPA offers rebates for many energy-efficient upgrades. The list can be found on our Rebates page.
MCPA does not directly come out to locate underground wiring. However, a call to Gopher State One call at phone #811 is required 48 hours in advance before digging. Gopher State One call is contracted through MCPA to mark all the utility owned underground wiring. If member-owned wiring needs to be located, the member would need to hire their electrician to provide that service.
On the MCPA home page, there is a link labeled “Check Load Control” that can be clicked on and will bring you to the latest Load Control Schedule.
Participating members round up their electric bill to the nearest dollar each month and donate it to the MCPA Operation Round Up Trust. The maximum annual donation a member can make is $11.88/year. The trust donates funds annually to non-profit organizations that are working to make an impact in the community. Operation Round-up is an ‘opt-out program’ – if members choose not to participate, they can let us know by calling our office at 320-864-3148 or 800-494-6272 and we will unenroll your account from the program. Visit our Operation Round Up page for more information, application, and previous donation details.
